How It Happened
  • Kayla Ferris and Alana Bortner did all the scoring for York in the first quarter as the two combined for 12 points with an even 6-6 split. Ferris had the first four points of the game for the Spartans before Bortner knocked down a trey to give York a 7-2 lead just past the midway point of the opening frame. Ferris hit a jumper to swell the York lead to 12-6 with 1:58 left, but the Pride ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to one as the Spartans committed three turnovers during that span.
  • York opened up a five-point lead, 19-14, with 5:13 left in the second quarter as Bradi Zumbrum finished on a layup following a feed from Savannah Wilson. The Spartans opened the quarter 3-for-4 from the floor, but took a turn for the worse in the final five minutes of the first half as Widener came back to take a 24-23 lead into the break. York finished the quarter just 1-for-4 from the floor and turned the ball over five times as the Pride closed out the half on a 10-4 run.
  • The two teams combined for 43 points in the third quarter with Widener just edging the Spartans, 22-21, in the third to maintain their halftime lead. The Pride led by as much as six on two different occasions in the third, with the latter at 3:42 left in the quarter, but York out-scored Widener 10-6 in the final 3:31 to cut the deficit to two heading to the fourth. Ferris banked in a runner on a fastbreak as time expired to cap off an 11-point third quarter performance as she went 5-for-7 from the floor.
  • Nearly three full minutes came off the clock before the first bucket was recorded in the fourth quarter and it was Cassidy Arnold with that bucket as she pulled York back into a tie for the first time in almost 12 full minutes. Two possessions later, Bortner gave the Spartans their first lead of the second half, 48-46, with a running jumper with just under six minutes left.
  • Widener's Jordan D'Ambrosio knocked down a pair of free throws to put the Pride back in the lead, 52-51, with 4:17 left in the fourth quarter. On the very next Spartan possession, Ferris scored a layup which put York back in the lead for good as the Spartans ended the game on a 9-2 run.
