How It Happened
• The Spartans could not have gotten off to a better start as they raced out to a 9-0 lead just over two minutes into the game.
Kayla Ferris started York off with their first two buckets to fuel the quick start. The nine-point lead was the highest of the half as the Chargers started to climb their way back into the game. The Spartan lead was eight at 16-8 with 1:10 left in the quarter but the Chargers got a three from Mikayla Via and a bucket from Alaysha Iwais to trim York's lead to three at 16-13 at the end of the first.
• The second quarter was offensively challenged for both squads as neither team seemed to be able to get into any kind off rhythm. The Spartan lead vacillated between one and five points until the Chargers took a one-point lead on a Lizzy Tilton bucket with just over one minute left in the half.
Savannah Wilson got the lead right back for York as she cashed out a three at the one minute mark as York took a 28-26 lead to the break.
• The Spartans went ice cold in the second quarter as they went just 3-for-15 from the floor. Thankfully, the Spartans went 5-for-6 from the stripe as they were able to maintain the lead.
• The second half started with the Spartans making a switch to a zone defense and that was a huge part of York's second half success. York opened the third quarter on a 10-0 run to push the lead to 12 with 3:51 left in the quarter. The Chargers cut the lead to six on a Sydney Heller three pointer but York scored five of the final seven points of the stanza to take a 45-36 lead to the fourth quarter.
• The fourth quarter was much of the same for the Spartans as they began the final quarter with a 13-4 run as the lead grew to a game-high 18 at 58-40. The Spartans closed out the game and earned the 17-point win, their biggest margin of victory on the road this year.
