Spartans Shut Out by Stevenson in MAC Play-In

Mustangs Tally Three Times in First Half in 3-0 Victory

YORK, Pa. - The fourth-seeded York men's soccer team had its MAC Commonwealth postseason run come to a close Monday night in a 3-0 loss to fifth-seed Stevenson at Graham Field. The Mustangs put all three tallies on the board in the first 39 minutes to earn just their second win against the Spartans in the 30-year history between the two programs.

No. 4 York 6-9-3

How It Happened
  • Stevenson struck first in the ninth minute of play. Following a Brady Bixler punt, Stevenson's Bryant Seivers played the ball off a bounce long over the top into the Mustang attacking third. Edson DeMata broke free from the Spartan back line and collected Seivers' pass. After entering the box, DeMata cut back to the middle, put the ball on his right foot and finished high to the right corner.
  • The Mustangs tacked on another goal in the 24th minute. Jack Accorsi played a ball up the left side field which allowed Iliass Zouita to run on and enter the box with possession. Zouita beat his man with a nifty move and finished low right past the sprawling Bixler.
  • Bixler denied Jason Kahan with a diving save in the 38th minute on a shot through traffic  from over 20 yards out, but Stevenson would capitalize on another opportunity moments later. The Mustangs regained possession following the Bixler save and swept up the field back into their attacking third. Diego Gomez had the ball on his foot in the center of the field in transition and dumped it off right to Jacob Chatten. Chatten ran on and booted the ball towards the goal and his shot caught the underside of the crossbar and deflected in for his first tally of the season.
  • The Spartans cracked open the Stevenson defense with their deepest run of the night in the 62nd minute. Noah Roche carried the ball deep into the right side of the box and ripped a shot that forced a kick save by Matt Stellitano. The rebound kicked out to the top of the box where Jack Mitzelfelt one-touched it back towards the net, but his attempt was blocked and cleared out of the zone by the Mustangs.
