Spartans Close Out Regular Season with Loss at Widener

York Will Return Home Monday for MAC Commonwealth Postseason Game

Box Score CHESTER, Pa. - The York men's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 loss at Widener on Saturday night in a MAC Commonwealth contest.

Due to loss by Stevenson earlier in the day, the Spartans locked up the fourth seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championship and will host the fifth-seeded Mustangs at 7 p.m. on Monday at Graham Field.

How It Happened
  • The Pride set the tone right off the opening kickoff with a goal in the second minute of play. Stefano Turano stunned York with a sudden shot from 20 yards out following a turnover by the Spartans in their defensive third.
  • Another Spartan miscue led to another Widener tally in the 18th minute. York turned the ball over in their defensive zone again and with Brady Bixler unable to get back into his net in time, the goal was left wide open for Sean Fatiga to score.
  • Five minutes later, the Pride tacked on a third goal as Nick Brison posted up his man on a throw-in and created a lane for himself to fire a clean shot on target and score.
  • The Spartans matched the Pride with six shots in the first half, but managed to only put one on target. York also had plenty of chances with a 5-1 advantage in corners, but failed to capitalize.
  • With the game well in hand, Widener tacked on another in the 81st minute Monsif Atify slipped a shot into the lower left corner to punctuate the blowout win.

The Spartans return home Monday night to face Stevenson in the MAC Commonwealth 4/5 Play-In game. Kickoff from game field is set for 7 p.m.
