YORK, PA – The York College volleyball team completed their 2021 regular season with a 3-0 sweep of Dickinson College on Thursday night in York. The Spartans extend their home win streak to nine with the win.

How It Happened
• The first set was back and forth for the first ten points of the game as the set was tied at five. The Red Devils scored four of the next five points to lead 9-6. York battled back to tie Dickinson at 10, 11, and 14. The Spartans put together a 7-0 spurt to lead 19-14. York pushed the lead to 20-15 but the Red Devils scored four straight points, cutting the York lead to one. The Spartans responded with two kills from Claire Shorb, kick starting a 3-0 run to take a 23-19 lead. With York up 24-20, Dickinson ripped off three straight points before Shorb ended the set with another kill.
• The second set was another back-and-forth affair. Dickinson started to slowly pull away during the set and eventually built their lead to 24-21 as they were on the cusp of squaring the match at one set each. The Spartans responded with a five-point spurt to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. The set was capped with a Megan Rizzi kill followed by a Sydney Wilber kill to give York the unlikely 26-24 victory.
• The third set was a carbon copy of the first two sets as the set was evenly played. The set was tied at 10 and 11 before the Spartans went on a 5-1 run to push out to a 16-12 lead. Dickinson scored two straight but York answered with five of the next six points to forge a 21-15 lead. The Red Devils answered with a 5-1 run of their own to cut York's lead to 22-20. York would go on to score three of the final five points to secure the three set win.

The Spartans are now 26-12 all-time against Dickinson as they snap a two-game losing skid to the Red Devils … York improves to 10-1 at home including their nine-game home win streak, the longest single season mark in school history … the Spartans' longest home win streak is 12 matches which was first achieved spanning the 2006 and 2007 seasons and matched from 2009 to 2011 … the Spartans are now 10-3 in three set games … York hit .227 in the win, their highest mark since October 16 when they matched that mark against Drew … freshman setter Alyssa Mott stepped into the starting lineup and responded with a career-high 35 assists for the Green and White … sophomore Megan Rizzi reached double figures in kills for the 17^th time this year and has been on quite a roll lately as she has 48 kills in York's last three matches … Rizzi has reached 15 kills or more five times during the campaign.

The Spartans begin their post season on Wednesday, November 3 when the Spartans travel to Stevenson for the 2021 MAC Commonwealth semifinals. The Spartans are the third seed and the Mustangs are the tournament's third seed. Stevenson earned a hard-fought 3-2 win back on September 8 in Owings Mills. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
