YORK, PA  – The York College field hockey team picked up their third straight win as the Spartans defeated Montclair State 2-1 in a non-conference contest at a wet Kinsley Field on Saturday afternoon in York. The Spartans have now won five of their last six contests.

How It Happened
• The first quarter was bereft of many offensive chances. The Spartans had a pair of penalty corners that each created one shot.
Hannah Huffman had her shot blocked near the top of the circle while
Libby Wild's lifted shot was batted out of the air by Montclair State goalie Lauren Pickul.
• The second half was far more offensive for the Green and White. York opened the scoring in the 20
th minute of play as Huffman
 deflected an initial shot from
Maycee Collison toward the back post. Freshman
Maggie Spadafora tipped the ball into the cage for her sixth goal of the year and the 1-0 Spartan lead.Â
• York tacked on a second goal with just over two minutes left in the first half. The Red Hawks were hit with a green card and the Spartans struck a few seconds later.
Carrie Shuey collected a loose ball on the right wing. She send a pass in front of the goal that
Sarah Burton put home for the second Spartan goal.
• York out shot the Red Hawks 11-0 in the first half while they also had a 10-0 margin in penalty corners.
• The third quarter featured more limited offense as the two teams combined for three shots and two corners.
• The Red Hawks made things interesting in the fourth quarter. They got on the board with eight minutes left as Gab Maisto fired a shot toward the cage. The ball was blocked but came right back to her and she deposited the ball in the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the year with just over seven minutes left in regulation.
• Montclair out shot York 4-0 in the fourth quarter as the Spartans would have to hang on for their third straight win.
