How It Happened
• The Captains opened up a 12-4 lead on a 5-for-8 performance from the field through the first four minutes of the game as the Spartans limited their own scoring chances by turning the ball over four times during that span. CNU extended the lead to 21-10 at the end of the first quarter as York struggled to gain momentum, shooting 5-for-17 from the field, including 0-for-5 from three-point range.
• The Spartans cut the deficit to four (25-21) with 3:51 left in the second quarter on an 11-4 run as they capitalized on four CNU turnovers during that span. The Captains managed to only shoot 1-for-13 from the field in the second quarter, but made all six of their free throw attempts. Turnovers once again plagued York as the Spartans turned it over six times, which prevented them gaining any traction in a comeback effort.
• CNU began to pull away in the third quarter, opening up a 20-point lead with 2:35 left in the quarter. The Spartans went 6-for-6 from the free throw line, but could not find much success from the floor as they shot 3-for-15 in the quarter, while the Captains shot 11-for-21 to take a 55-34 lead at the of the quarter.
• The tough shooting trend continued for the Spartans to start the fourth quarter as they shot 1-for-9, including 0-for-5 from three-point range through the first five minutes. York managed to end the game on a positive trend, shooting 5-for-8 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, led by a pair of three-pointers from Haley Luckabaugh.
