Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The York College women's basketball team saw their opportunity to lock up the two seed in the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference fall away as the Mary Washington Eagles downed the Spartans 71-43 in Capital Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg. A win would have locked up the first-round bye for the Green and White but now, the Spartans have just a glimmer of hope as they need a win on Wednesday and a whole lot of help to earn the two seed.

How It Happened:
• The Spartans got off to a very cold start from the field as York went just 4-for-14 from the floor in the opening 10 minutes of play. The Spartans were fortunate to only trail 14-10 at the end of the one quarter but the Eagles weren't much better from the floor as they shot 38.9% in the opening period.
• The Eagles began the second quarter on a 11-3 run as they pushed the lead to 11 at 24-13 just over midway through the quarter. The Spartans trimmed the lead to six on a Haley Luckabaugh triple at the 3:44 mark. However, the Eagles outscored York 12-3 over the final three and a half minutes of the quarter to take a 36-21 lead at the half. UMW senior Emily Thompson was responsible for all of the Eagles points on the run as she drilled four threes to end the half.
• The Spartans made a push in the opening three minutes of the second half, cutting the Eagle lead to ten at 40-30. The Eagles stifled the Spartan offense the remainder of the third quarter as they outscored York 14-2, pushing their lead to 54-32 at the end of three quarters of play.
• The fourth quarter saw the Spartans get no closer than 21 points on a Savannah Wilson three with 6:17 left in the game. The Eagles would go on to cruise to the 28-point win.
