How It Happened:

The Captains cut the Spartan lead to three on two occasions but York pushed the advantage back to seven at 17-10 on another Day layup. After a Captain bucket cut it to five, Meghan Carlson converted a three-point play with two seconds left in the quarter as York took a 20-12 lead after one.
• The Captains opened the second quarter with a 7-0 spurt, trimming the York lead to one with 6:31 left in the quarter. The Spartans scored four straight before the Captains hit a free throw to give York a 30-28 lead at the break.
• The third quarter proved to be the Spartans undoing. The Captains began the quarter with a 13-0 run as the Spartans didn't score until Kayla Ferris hit a layup with 4:23 left in the period. The Captains hit back-to-back three-pointers as the lead grew to 15 at 47-32. CNU took a 49-34 lead to the fourth quarter. The Spartans went 1-for-13 from the floor and had eight turnovers which the Captains turned into eight points in the fateful 10 minutes of the third quarter. The Captain bench outscored York 15-0 in the quarter.
• The Spartans kept the play even in the fourth quarter but couldn't get closer than 12 points in the quarter as the Captains kept them at bay.

Notes:
The trip to Newport News was the final regular season visit for the Spartans as they head to the MAC next season … The Captains lead the all-time series 11-7 after the teams split their two meetings last year … the Spartans committed a season-high 30 turnovers in the loss as the Captains turned those miscues into 21 points … the Captains had just one more field goal than the Spartans but two more three pointers … the Captains held a 15-5 edge in free throws made in addition to a 21-9 bulge in free throws attempted despite the Captains playing their patented pressing defense the entire game … the 30 turnovers are the most since February 23, 2017 when they matched that total against CNU in the CAC quarterfinals … the nine trips to the free throw line are tied for the fewest attempts for the year … York blocked six more shots as they now have 78 for the year in 16 games … York won the battle of the glass 44-43 but surrendered 19 offensive rebounds to the Captains and they turned those boards into 13 second chance points … sophomore Haley Luckabaugh had her fourth straight game with at least 16 points … Luckabaugh had a big week with 69 points in three games during this busy week for the Spartans … junior Molly Day recorded her second double-double of the year with her 12 points and 11 rebounds … Day's 11 rebounds were a new season-high for the forward … Kayla Ferris leads the Spartans with four double-doubles while Luckabaugh has the other one for York.
