#8 Captains Spoil Spartan Women's Soccer Senior Day

YORK, PA –   On a rainy Senior Day in York, the Spartan women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference decision to #8 Christopher Newport Captains at Graham Field. The Spartans were not able to muster up enough on the offensive side of the ball to stay in the game.  Christopher Newport struck first and added two second half goals to down the Spartans on their last regular season home game of the 2019 season.

How It Happened:

• CNU were dominating possession early but were unable to produce a goal. The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when junior Riley Cook collected a loose ball on the left wing.  Cook took a touch around the defender and slotted the left-footed shot past Spartan goalkeeper Jillian Kozak to give the Captains a 1-0 lead.

•The game went to the half with the Captains leading 1-0.  CNU doubled their lead in the 63rd minute.  Freshman Molly Beegle gathered a loose ball, made a move inside and fired a shot that hit the inside of the post and rolled in to give the Captains a 2-0 lead.

•CNU struck right back three minutes later when sophomore Emily Talotta took the ball towards the end line.  Talotta fired a cross towards goal and senior Carson Pokorny found herself on the end of the cross to head in the ball and push the lead to 3-0 and seal the win for the Captains.

The Spartans conclude their regular season on Wednesday, October 30.  The Green and White will head to Mary Washington for their last regular season conference game.  Kickoff is set for 3 PM in Fredericksburg, Va.
