Spartans Hold Off Lions Late For Shutout Victory

Box Score

YORK, PA – The Spartans held off a late flurry of attacks from Albright to capture the 1-0 win in a tough non-conference bout on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Match #5

Records: York 2-3, Albright 2-4

Shots: York 13, Albright 4

How It Happened:

• After a slow first half that was filled with a battle for possession in the midfield, the Spartans capitalized on a penalty corner when Paige Taylor knocked in a rebound off the Lion goalkeeper to take a 1-0 lead with four minutes remaining in the half.

• The Lions threatened to draw even before half but a goal was waved off for an infraction giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead into the break.

• Another defensive struggle in the second half resulted in little chances for either side and Albright had some bad luck again having two goals waved off in the second half including the game-tying goal with no time left in regulation.

• Spartans defense held strong and Sam Keating had her second shutout of the season to preserve the 1-0 win.
