How It Happened:
• Both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the first half as both defenses held strong throughout limiting the dangerous chances by either side.
• The Bulldogs broke the scoring five minutes into the second half as Sam Riccardi placed a volley into the corner of the net off a set piece from Gabby Torchia.
• The Spartans drew even in the 64th minute off their own set piece when Rachel Wilhelm was on the receiving end of a Caitlin Rankin corner kick to knot it up at 1-1.
• Just ten minutes later, Rankin grabbed a goal of her own when she perfectly placed a shot from outside the 18-yard box into the upper left corner over the outstretched arm of the Bulldog keeper.
• DeSales threatened late but the Spartan defense, backed by goalkeeper Sydney Kahn who made some stellar saves late, wrapped up the 2-1 win for York.
