GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• The Spartans kicked proceedings off with a 6-0 run after buckets from three different players. Salisbury eventually leveled the scoring at 8-8 at the halfway point of the opening period. The Sea Gulls rattled off a 7-0 run to open a 15-10 lead. Both teams seemed to settle in, and traded baskets for much of the remaining first quarter. Salisbury led 19-16 after one. Six different players for York scored in the first 10 minutes.

 • Under four minutes into the second quarter, the Sea Gulls pushed the lead to as high as eight points, at 26-18. But the Spartans wouldn't quit. They outscored Salisbury 11-4 the rest of the quarter, pulling within one, 30-29 at the break. York nailed three three-pointers on consecutive scoring possessions. Brianna Bisci hit the first one just before the halfway point of the second quarter. Less than a minute later, Debria Hendricks hit the second, to trim the deficit to four. For good measure, Hendricks hit another, with less than two minutes left in the half.

• To open the second half, York picked up right where they left off. Beth Wiseley got into the long-ball action, drilling a three to take the lead 32-30. But, it was short lived as Lauren Rothfield, who finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, tied it up at 32 just 20 seconds later. That bucket started a 10-0 run for the Sea Gulls. They led 47-39 with one quarter to play.
• Still, despite the large deficit, the Spartans would fight back. Over a span of about five minutes, York outscored Salisbury 12-4 to close within 56-53 with 2:22 left. Seven of those points came from Katie Wagner, who led York with 16 points. Two more Wagner free throws cut the lead to three once again, 58-55, with 1:37 left. The Spartans had to foul, putting Mary McDonagh, of Salisbury, on the line. She converted both, and the Sea Gulls went 5-for-6 from the stripe to end the game, 63-55.
