How It Happened
• York entered Sunday right in the thick of the playoff race in the Capital Athletic Conference with a chance to make a statement by taking down undefeated Salisbury.
• Both teams earned some early chances, including Maxine Herman for the Spartans, but her effort sailed high. Her shot was just one of two for York in the first 45 minutes, as Georgia Gillcrist took one in the 36th minute.
• The Spartans battled in the second half, and forced Sea Gull keeper Hope Knussman into saves. Alyssa Rankin put one on target in the 67th minute, but Knussman was there. Herman headed a shot on goal, but again Knussman was able to save it.
• The game looked destined for overtime after a scoreless 85 minutes, but it was Salisbury who stole the win in the waning moments. In the 87th minute, Brooke Rossiter managed to put one past Jess Wieber.
