Mallory's Big Day Powers Spartans Past EMU

HARRISONBURG, VA – The York College field hockey team added a second win to their season by defeating Eastern Mennonite University 6-1 in Harrisonburg, Virginia on Saturday afternoon.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomore Autumn Mallory (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) got the Spartans on the board just 4:06 into the first half as she scored off a pass from Kenidy Kubitz (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley).

• York added to the lead as sophomore Paige Taylor (York, Pa./Red Lion) took a pass from fellow sophomore Lindsay Nye (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) 9:15 into the game to give York the 2-0 lead. The goal was Taylor's second of the year as she has scored in both of York's games.

• Junior All-American Ali Posey (Airville, Pa./Red Lion) capped the first half scoring with an unassisted goal with just over 10 minutes left in the first half. The goal was her second of the year as she has scored in both games this year.

• Mallory wasted little time in opening the second half scoring as she scored 1:36 into the second stanza to push the lead to 4-0. The goal was assisted by Beth Patrick (Pitman, N.J./Pitman).

• Mallory completed the hat trick with her third goal of the game just over four minutes later as she picked up the unassisted tally to make the Spartan lead 5-0.

• Sophomore Kate Swope (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) notched York's final goal with just over 18 minutes left in regulation as the Spartans led 6-0.

• The Royals spoiled the shutout as Julie Burkhardt scored with just 1:39 left in regulation to get EMU on the board.

In the 2015, season the Spartans went 5-4 when goal leader Ali Posey scored at least one goal in the game … this year Posey has a goal in both Spartan wins ... Autumn Mallory tied her career high with three goals in a game … Mallory also tallied three goals on October 22, 2014 when she found the back of the cage three times at Mary Washington … Mallory's eight shots tied a career high as she also fired off 8 shots against the Royals in last year's match up in York … York has 10 goals with five different players finding the back of the cage.  

UP NEXT

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, September 7 when they travel to Dickinson to face former head coach Carly Zinn and the Red Devils. The match is slated for a 4:00 pm start in Carlisle. The game is the second of a three-game road trip.
