How It Happened

• The two squads played back and forth in the early stages of the game. Neither team could gain any offensive footing as both teams attempted three shots in the opening 45 minutes.

• A huge turning point in the game came at the 36:40 mark when the Spartans were given a red card for a hard tackle. That left the Spartans one man down the rest of the game.

• The Captains started pushing the tempo against the Spartans to start the second half. CNU fired off the first four shots of the half before the Spartans got their first shot of the stanza.

• Senior goalie Charlie Johnson kept the game scoreless as he made a number of saves to keep the outnumbered Spartans in the game.

• The Captains finally broke through in the 77th minute as Patrick Burns beat a Spartan defender and flicked a pass to Jimmy Grace who hit a one-time volley into the net for the game's opening goal.

• CNU added to the lead in the 83rd minute as Burns dribbled into the the top of the box and unleashed a shot into the right side netting for his third goal of the year.

• CNU took advantage of the man up situation in the second half as they outshot York 14-2 in the second 45 minutes of play.
