How It Happened
• The Generals wasted little time in jumping on the Spartans early and midfielder Katie Pettit played a large role in W&L's goals. Pettit had a throw in inside of midfield at the 12-minute mark. Her flip throw landed just outside the box and pinged around the box until it found the head of Caroline Peters who flicked the header past an oncoming Brittany Cullison for the game's opening goal. The goal was Peters' first of the year.
• The Generals added to the lead in the 31st minute when Pettit again drilled a throw in deep into the box. The initial shot was saved but Megan Engeland collected the rebound and calmly dished the ball to Laney Smith who finished into a wide open net for the 2-0 lead.
• W&L really carried the play in the opening half as they outshot York 11-3 including putting six shots on target.
• The Generals put the game away just 2:30 into the second half as Smith struck for a second goal, this time off a pass from Rebecca Morris.
• The offensive pace would slow dramatically in the second half as there were only nine shot attempts combined. W&L outshot the Spartans 6-3 in the second half.
