HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Spartans had the early momentum in the game as they fired off the first three shots of the game but had nothing to show for it as Lynchburg goalie Beka Ness made two early saves to keep the game scoreless.
• The Hornets got on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute. Lynchburg had a corner and Nicole Simpao fired off a shot. Spartan netminder Eve Hauptle (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) made a save on the initial shot but Simpao put the rebound home for the 1-0 Lynchburg lead.
• Sophomore Lindsay Nye (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) then went to work. The sophomore collected a loose ball on the right wing at midfield. She drove down towards the Lynchburg net, juked Ness and finished the chance for the goal. Nye's goal tied the game with just under 10 minutes left in the first half.
• Simpao had a penalty stroke three minutes later but Hauptle was up to the task as she stoned Simpao, keeping the game tied headed to the break.
• The Spartans outshot the Hornets 8-6 in the first half while they also held a 4-3 margin in penalty corners.
• The second half quickly became the Ali Posey (Airville, Pa./Red Lion) show. The Spartans' junior All-American took the game over with a three-goal flurry that turned a close game into a one-sided affair. Posey began her run with a goal off a corner 3:46 into the second half. Posey blasted a shot into the back of the cage after receiving a pass from Sydney LaMarsh (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) on a corner.
• Posey scored her second goal 2:54 later as she sliced through the Lynchburg defense and ripped a shot past Ness for the 3-1 Spartan lead.
• Posey completed the natural hat trick 39 seconds later as she hit an absolute rocket from the right wing into the back left post as Ness never had a chance to stop the shot. The hat trick gives Posey nine goals for the year.
• Nye concluded the Spartan scoring in the 57th minute as she collected a rebound and banged home her second goal of the year, putting York up 5-1. The goal was Nye's 16th of the year.
• Simpao got a cosmetic goal in the 65th minute against a number of Spartan reserves to provide for the final 5-2 Spartan margin of victory.
