#4 Salisbury Snaps Spartans' Win Streak

SALISBURY, MD – The York College field hockey saw their five match win streak come to an end on Wednesday evening as the fourth-ranked Salisbury University Sea Gulls downed the Spartans 6-2 in Capital Athletic Conference action in Salisbury, MD.

HOW IT HAPPENED

 • The Sea Gulls jumped on the Spartans early as Becca Rinaca found the back of the cage when goalie Eve Hauptle kicked the ball out. Rinaca collected the kick and fired a waist high shot past Hauptle for the 1-0 lead just 3:45 into the contest.

• The Gulls made it 2-0 as Rinaca found the back of the cage again, this time with 12:09 left in the first half. Annah Brittingham hit the post with a shot. Rinaca collected the rebound and drilled it back into the cage for her 11th goal of the year.

• Brittingham made it 3-0 with 3:07 left in the opening half. She received a pass from Kristen Yingling and finished off the chance inside the left post.

• Salisbury hit the Spartans with a dagger with seven seconds left in the half as Brittingham and Yingling combined again for a goal. The goal gave the Gulls a 4-0 lead heading to the half.

• Salisbury outshot the Spartans 14-3 in the opening 35 minutes of play. The Gulls also held a 6-2 margin in penalty corners.

• Junior Ali Posey broke up the shutout in the 50th minute as she dribbled into the middle of the circle and ripped a shot past Tressie Windsor for the goal. The tally was Posey's eighth of the year.

• Senior Sydney LaMarsh made it 4-2 in the 54th minute with her second goal of the year. LaMarsh carried the ball into the circle and unleashed a rocket that snuck inside the right post for the goal.

• Salisbury closed out the game with back-to-back goals from Natalie Wilkinson. Wilkinson scored in the 55th minute and the 60th minute for the final 6-2 margin of victory. Brittingham assisted both of the goals.

GAME NOTES

The Spartans are now 1-30 all-time against Salisbury … the two goals against the Sea Gulls are the most the Spartans have scored against Salisbury since October 2, 2010 when York lost 4-2 … Sophomore Lindsay Nye, the CAC's leading scorer, was held scoreless for the first time this season … Nye had entered the game having a goal in ten straight games while she had scored a point in all 12 of York's games in 2016 …  the Spartans' 11 shots were York's lowest total of the year … Ali Posey and Jennifer Morrissette each had a defensive save for the game … the two defensive saves for game were a season-high … the Spartans' ten saves were a season-high.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they continue their season-high four match road trip with a trek to St. Mary's City, Maryland to face the Seahawks in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
