Robinson Powers Spartans Past Lions in CAC Tilt

Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, PA – The York College men's soccer squad got two second half goals to pull out a 2-1 Capital Athletic Conference win at Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday afternoon in Middletown, PA.

The Spartans improve to 4-6-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the CAC, as they are unbeaten in their last three matches. The Lions fall to 2-6-2 overall while they are 0-3 in league play.

The Spartans carried the play early but it was the Lions who would draw first blood on the scoreboard. Late in the opening half, Ethan Hoover would finish a pass from Victor Weaver for the game's first goal. Hoover's tally was his second of the year and came in the 41st minute of play.

The Lions would take the lead to the break despite being outshot 5-2 while the Spartans also held a 4-2 margin in corner kicks.

The Green and White finally got on the board in the 59th minute of the match. Junior Nigel Robinson (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) carried the ball along the left flank and played a quality ball into the box. Senior Brendan Saberton (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) collected Robinson's well-placed pass and finished the chance near post from 12 yards out with his left foot. The goal was Saberton's third of the season.

Robinson struck again just under seven minutes later to notch the game-winner for York. Senior Christopher Saberton (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) had the ball on the left wing and beat his defender with a nice one-on-one move. He sent a cross on the ground into the box where Joel Teston (Manassas, Va./Forest Park) played a lay off to Robinson who finished off the quality chance from 10 yards out in the middle of the 18-yard box. The goal was Robinson's team-leading fifth of the year.

The Spartans would hold the Lions to just three shots over the final 25 minutes of the game as the Green and White picked up their first conference win of the year.

York outshot the Lions 13-6 for the game including 4-2 in shots on goal. The Spartans also held an 8-3 margin in corner kicks.

Junior Charlie Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) earned the win as he recorded one save in his 90 minutes of work. Harrisburg's Brandon Hoover made two saves and allowed two goals in his 90 minutes of action.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they host the University of Mary Washington in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. Kick off from Graham Field is set for 3:00 pm.
