Box Score SALISBURY, MD – The York College women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference match at Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon in Salisbury, Maryland.
The Sea Gulls improve to 10-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the league. York falls to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
The Sea Gulls opened the scoring in the 20th minute of the game as Jenna DeLetto served a pass from the left side of the box to Logan O'Meara, who was on the right hand side of the box. O'Meara finished the opportunity for her second goal of the year.
The Spartans continued to battle as they were outshot 9-4 in the opening 45 minutes of play. York's lone shot on goal in the first half came off the foot of junior Kirsten Good (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) in the 25th minute of the game.
The second half featured back and forth play with the two squads taking turns playing with the momentum. Both teams had opportunities but both goalkeepers came up with saves to keep the game a one-goal margin.
That changed in the 82nd minute as Christine Clark took advantage of a deflection off a Salisbury corner kick. Clark headed home a ball after it glanced off a Spartan defender for the Sea Gulls second goal. The tally was Clark's third of the year.
The Sea Gulls closed out the scoring in the 83rd minute when DeLetto slotted a shot from the left side of the box across the goal mouth into the right side netting for her fifth goal of the year.
The Sea Gulls outshot the Spartans 16-9 in the game including 8-3 in shots on goal. Salisbury finished the match with six corner kicks while York did not earn any corners during the match.
Alesha Seifert earned the win in goal as she made three saves in the victory. Senior Kate Lutte (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) absorbed the loss as she made five saves and allowed three goals in her 90 minutes of work.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Penn State Harrisburg to face the Lions in a conference match up. Kick off from Middletown is set for 3:30 pm.
