Box Score YORK, PA – The York College men's basketball team turned the ball over a season-high 30 times as they dropped a 65-57 Capital Athletic Conference decision to Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday night in York.
The Lions improve to 3-15 overall and 3-8 in the league while York falls to 4-14 and 3-8 in the conference.
The Lions got off to a fantastic start in the game as they outscored York 17-4 in the opening 7:53 of the game. The Spartans were undeterred as they climbed back into the game, cutting the Lion lead to three thanks to a 12-2 run as York trailed 19-16. Harrisburg would push their lead back to six at 26-20 but York outscored the Lions 6-2 over the final four minutes of the half as the Harrisburg lead was cut to 28-26 at the half.
The Spartans continued to battle as they tied the game three times in the second half with the final time coming at 44-44 on a Blake Straitman (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) three with 10:51 left in the game. The Lions answered with a 7-0 spurt that gave them a 51-44 lead with 8:40 left. Harrisburg increased the lead to nine but York got it down to five on a Mike Duffy (Hanover, Pa./South Western) hoop at the 4:47 mark.
With the Spartans' knocking at the door, Harrisburg got a jumper from Arick Sodini, a steal and dunk from Joe Farthing, and a lay up from Anthony Morgan to quickly push the lead to a game-high 11. York cut it to five with 14 seconds left before the Lions converted three of four at the charity stripe to provide for the final eight point margin.
Three Lions reached double figures led by Sodini as he came off the bench to record 12 points. Farthing and Morgan each added ten points while Alberto De Los Santos had a fantastic all around game with nine points, seven assists, four steals, three rebounds and a blocked shot in his 30 minutes of action.
Duffy led the Spartans as he tallied 16 points in his 29 minutes of action. Duffy also had four rebounds and two assists for York. Freshman Max Bell (Finksburg, Md./Francis Scott Key) recorded his second career double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Bell was 4-for-6 from the field and 4-for-6 from the line.
York shot 42.9% from the field and 27.8% (5-for-18) from three. York was a solid 10-for-12 from the free throw line. Harrisburg shot 42.1% from the floor including 31.3% (10-for-32) from three. The Lions converted 7-of-11 from the stripe in the win.
York dominated on the glass as they outrebounded the Lions 40-24 as the Green and White had 14 offensive rebounds. The Spartans held a 26-18 margin in points in the paint and a 12-5 advantage in second chance points.
Harrisburg took advantage of York's miscues as they converted the 30 Spartan turnovers into 24 points.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Christopher Newport in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. Tip time from Wolf Gymnasium is set for 3:00 pm.
