Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The York College women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 non-conference decision at Elizabethtown College on Wednesday night.
The Spartans suffer their first setback of the year, as they are now 2-1 while the Blue Jays improve to 2-0 with the victory.
The Blue Jays struck early as Lauren Fredericks single-handedly tallied the game's only goal just 2:33 into the match. Fredericks collected the ball to the right of the box, fought her way through the Spartan defense and banged home a high shot that beat Spartan netminder Melanie Glessner (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone).
The Blue Jays finished the first half with a 7-6 margin in total shots and a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. Elizabethtown also had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Spartans played better in the second half as they made a few runs at the Elizabethtown defense but ultimately, couldn't put consistent pressure on the Blue Jays as the Green and White played their third straight 1-0 game of the year.
Elizabethtown concluded the game with a 14-9 edge in total shots and a 7-4 margin in shots on goal. The Blue Jays had six corner kicks to just two for the Spartans.
Glessner finished with six saves as she suffered her first loss of the year including surrendering her first goal in 182:33 minutes of action in 2014. Dana Robidoux earned the clean sheet with four saves.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Ursinus College in a non-conference contest. The Spartans home opener is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
