Box Score YORK, Pa. – York College senior Beth Bunn (Lothian, Md./Calverton School) tallied her first of the season while Jordan Snook (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) slotted home goal number two of 2014 as the York College women's soccer team bested visiting Goucher 2-0 on Saturday.
The non-conference victory lifts the Spartans to 4-2-1 on the year while the Gophers drop to 2-4-1.
In the 24th minute, senior midfielder Traci Mohl (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon Catholic) lined up a corner from the right side of the pitch, striking her service into the penalty area. Bunn found the end of that service and she headed home the opening marker directly from Mohl's corner.
Snook's tally came deep in the second frame as the senior put the Green and White up by the final 2-0 count with just seven minutes left in the match. The unassisted effort gave the home side a bit of breathing room over the final stretch.
That goal would prove comforting, as Goucher nearly broke through the Spartan defense in the waning seconds. With little time remaining, the Gophers struck a shot from just outside the box, deflecting the effort off a Spartan defender. The resulting carom headed precariously toward the lower left side of the York goal. However, an alert Melanie Glessner (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) ranged to her right and made a one-handed parry save to preserve the clean sheet.
For the match, the Green and White held a 19-5 lead in shots, including a 12-2 margin in the second half. York also secured an 8-2 advantage in corners.
Glessner nabbed her fourth win of the campaign while counterpart Juliana Harkavy collected four saves for the visitors. Glessner made one save in her fourth clean sheet of the year.
York returns to action on Saturday, September 27, to host Haverford in the Spartans' final non-conference match of the season. Start time is slated for 1:00 pm at Graham Field.
