YORK, Pa. - It was the final home meet of the season for the York Wrestling team as they celebrated their seniors for senior day. The Spartans cruised to a quick 39-6 victory over the Gettysburg Bullets.
Ronald Hindman (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) set the tone of the day for the Spartans with his 125 pound match. With some quick takedowns, and a quick flip to get back points, Hindman was able to get the 12-1 major decision. At 141, Joey Giaccio (Cranford, N.J. / Cranford) wrestled the ever tough Spano from Gettysburg. Giaccio was able to get out early with a 6-2 lead and rode out the rest of the match battling many takedown attempts.
In the most exciting match of the day, Victor Signorelli (Oak Ridge, N.J. / Twin Valley) left the crowd with many cheers for his senior day sendoff. The score was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, and Signorelli came out striking in the overtime period and quickly earned a takedown just before Carcuffe, of Gettysburg, was able to escape. Drew Spector (West Deptford, N.J. / West Deptford) got the only Spartan pin of the day with a second period fall in just 4:40. Tyler Rhoads (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) put on a dominating performance earning a tech fall in the first period with a 17-0 victory. With no contest at 197, Aaron Leeking (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) wrestled up in the heavyweight bout. Leeking pushed hard but Stoops proved too much earning the Bullets their only points on the day with a pin.
The match featured three forfeits (133, 165, 184) on the day, and helped keep the Spartans undefeated at home for the year. Seniors Victor Signorelli and Aaron Leeking left a strong mark on the program and were recognized for their contributions prior to the match.
