Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The York College field hockey team chalked up its 10th win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Stevenson on Wednesday evening.
York (10-2), who is receiving votes in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll, continues to impress in one of its best turnaround seasons in program history. Today the Spartans reached double-digit victories for the second fastest time in program history, winning 10 of its first 12 games. In the 1998 season, York won 10 of its first 11 games.
Following a scoreless first half in which York out-shot Stevenson (7-6) 5-1, the Spartans did not take their foot off the gas petal and broke the scoreless tie just over three minutes into the second half.
Sophomore Alexa Taylor (York, Pa./Red Lion) put York on the board with her second goal of the season after receiving a helper from freshman Beth Patrick (Pitman, N.J./Pitman).
Just minutes later, the Spartans extended the lead to 2-0 as Patrick once again dished out an assist, this time to junior Holly Martin (Hanover, Pa./South Western) who was set up in front of the cage.
The Spartan defense once again turned in a fine performance, limiting the Mustangs to just five total shots and freshman goalkeeper Jessica Everett (Windsor, Pa./Red Lion) recorded three saves to just one goal allowed en route to her 10th win of the season.
York led 10-5 in total shots and held a 10-7 advantage in penalty corners.
York returns to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in a CAC contest at St. Mary's (Md.).
