Box Score YORK, Pa. – A hat trick of goals by freshman Maxine Herman (York, Pa./Dover) highlighted a dominating performance by the York College women's soccer team in a 5-0 victory over Marymount (Va.) on Tuesday evening at Graham Field.
Herman tallied the second, third and fifth goals for York (6-3-2, 2-1 CAC). On her first goal, Herman finished with a laser shot to the upper right corner of the goal after being set up on the play by senior Jordan Snook (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale). Herman's final two goals were great displays of the young striker's hustle and ability to finish in one-on-one situations. Both goals were created by Herman's determination to out-work her opponents to put herself into a prime scoring position.
The overall mentality of the Spartans was to jump on Marymount (1-9-1, 0-3) early and keep pouring it. York did just that as the Green and White found itself on top in the fifth minute of play after Traci Mohl (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon Catholic) knocked home a penalty kick to the lower right corner. The penalty kick was warranted after Emma Georgantis (York, Pa./Red Lion) was fouled with possession of the ball inside the box.
York's third different goal-scorer in the game was senior defender Kayla Kovalsky (Merrick, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial). Kovalsky pressed up inside the 6-yard line and finished with a tap-in goal from about three yards out after the ball had gotten by the Saint defense.
The Spartans completely dominated the time of possession as evidence of a 24-2 margin in total shots. York also held the Saints to zero shots on goal.
York earned its 20th victory all-time versus Marymount, as the series record moves to 20-2 in favor of the Spartans.
The five goals scored in today's match marks the most goals York has scored since scoring eight goals in an 8-0 victory over Gallaudet on October 13, 2009.
York returns to action on Saturday at home in a CAC contest against Mary Washington at 12:30 p.m.
