Box Score YORK, Pa. – The York College field hockey team failed to put a goal on the board as the Spartans fell 2-0 to Alvernia at home on Tuesday evening.
York (10-4) applied sufficient pressure throughout the contest, totaling 14 shots and 11 corners, but the Spartans were unable to solve Crusader goalkeeper Erin Wunsch.
Wunsch made two huge saves along with multiple other quality saves to keep Alvernia on top and provide frustration for the York offense.
The biggest of Wunsch's saves came in the 18th minute on a York penalty corner. Freshman Ali Posey (Airville, Pa./Red Lion) unleashed an absolute laser from the left-side edge of the circle and Wunsch laid out to a full extension to make a spectacular diving save.
The second key save of the night also came on a Spartan penalty corner in the first half when freshman Shania Gelvin (Hustontown, Pa./Forbes Road) unloaded a rocket shot from the left side. Wunsch once again came up with fantastic save, this time dropping down and making a sprawling kick save.
The Spartans will have to put the frustrations of tonight's contest behind them quickly as they prepare for CAC foe and No. 1 ranked Salisbury on Saturday. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Kinsley Field.
