Box Score READING, PA – The York College women's soccer squad
continued their early season struggles with a 3-0 setback at
Alvernia University in a non-conference contest on Monday. The
Spartans fall to 1-5-1 overall while the Crusaders improve to
5-2-1.
Alvernia was powered Amy Meace as she notched a pair of goals in
the victory. Meace opened the scoring in the 32nd minute
with an unassisted goal. She then closed out the scoring in the
80th minute on a penalty kick.
In between Meace's scores, Brittany Adamski converted a
Kelsey Gill pass for the Crusaders' second goal of the game
in the matches' 61st minute.
The Crusaders outshot the Spartans 17-10 including dominating
the second half shots, 13-3. Alvernia also held a 4-2 margin in
corner kicks.
The Spartans managed four shot on goal in the first half but
Crusader goalie Kirsten Kelley was up to the challenge in keeping
the Green and White off the board. Kelley finished the match with
five saves in notching the shutout.
Three Spartan goalies saw time in net for York. Sarah Spanarkel started and allowed two goals in her 63:50 of
work. Spanarkel registered four saves for York. Senior
Desiree Halaka played 15:15 and made two saves in
allowing Meace's penalty kick goal. Sophomore Katie Meehan played the final 10:55 and did not have to make a
save and did not surrender a goal.
The Spartans return to Capital Athletic Conference action on
Thursday afternoon when they host Hood College in a league match.
Game time is slated for 4:30 pm at Graham Field.
