Box Score ASTON, PA – The York College field hockey team exploded
for six second half goals en route to a convincing 7-0
non-conference win over Neumann University on Thursday evening in
Aston, PA. The Spartans improve to 4-3 overall while the Knights
fall to 0-6 overall.
The Spartans seized control of the contest early as sophomore
Sandee Reich struck for her team-leading fifth
goal of the year just 42 seconds into the match. The goal was
assisted by Allison Roush and staked the Spartans
to the very early advantage. It was a turn around for the Green and
White as they have fell behind 2-0 in each of their last two
contests.
York continued to apply pressure to the Knight defense as they
outshot the hosts 11-4 in the opening 35 minutes of play.
The Spartans opened the second half onslaught as Brittany Simmons drilled home a penalty stroke just over 14 minutes into the
second half. Danielle Gaitings scored the
Spartans' third goal with 18:04 remaining in the game.
Freshman Jillian Brezgel recorded her first career
goal with 6:54 left in the contest. Senior Kelly Kreamer recorded back-to-back goals in a 2:05 stretch as
the Spartan lead grew to 6-0.
Freshman Kristen Bridgers closed out the
scoring with her first collegiate goal in the final three minutes
of the game as the Spartans scored their most goals in a game since
October 19, 2006 when they downed College of Notre Dame
7-1.
Roush registered four assists in the win for the Spartans.
York finished the game holding a 23-6 edge in shots and a 13-1
bulge in penalty corners.
Senior Maggie Schlauch recorded four saves in
her third shutout win of the year. Sam Kototwski made eight saves
in her 70 minutes of work in goal for the Knights.
The Spartans return to action on September 22 when they host
Hood College in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. Game time is
slated for 4:30 pm.
