Box Score ST. DAVIDS, PA – The York College women's soccer
squad dropped their 2010 opener, falling at Eastern University 4-1
on Wednesday afternoon in St. Davids, Pa. The Eagles, who fell to
the Spartans 4-2 in last year's opener, improve to 1-0
overall while York now stands at 0-1.
The season got off to an auspicious start as Eastern went up 1-0
on a York College own goal in the game's 28th
minute. The Spartans kept the Eagles off the board the remainder of
the half as they took the 1-0 deficit to the half. The Eagles
outshot the Spartans 7-5 in the opening 45 minutes as all 12 shots
of the stanza were on target.
The Eagles wasted little time out of the break extending their
lead as Kelsey Doutrich notched a goal on a helper off the foot of
Tess Beckwith just 29 seconds after the intermission. That tally
was followed 14 minutes later with an Allison Inch goal off a feed
from Michelle Brown in the 60th minute of the match.
York avoided the shutout as junior Stephanie Rice found Lauren Ward for a goal in the
71st minute, drawing the Spartans to within two goals at
3-1.
Eastern got that goal back in the 84th minute as
Beckwith notched her second goal of the game, providing the Eagles
with their final three goal margin of victory.
Alysia Goodman earned the win in net for the Eagles as she went
the distance, recording eight saves. Junior Sarah Spanarkel started and suffered the loss as he allowed
three goals in her 67:07 of action. She registered ten saves for
the Green and White. Senior Desiree Halaka played
19:37 in goal and allowed a goal with two stops. Sophomore
Katie Meehan played the final 3:16 and made one
save for York.
The Eagles outshot the Spartans 20-12 for the match while York
held a slight 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
York returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to
Misericordia to face the Cougars in a non-conference contest. Game
time is set for 1:00 pm.
