EWING, NJ – The York College wrestling
team fell hard Tuesday afternoon, dropping a pair of matches at the
College of New Jersey. The host Lions, currently ranked seventh in
the country, handed the Spartans a 38-0 shutout defeat before
Centenary secured a 24-10 win over the Green and White. The two
losses drop the Spartans's record to 6-13 for the season.
The College of New Jersey blanked the Spartans
as they took each of the 10 bouts. Chris Gugliotti
(Swoyersville, Pa./Pittston Area) provided York with a
tight match at 141, losing by a mere point at 6-5.
York's latter match against Centenary
began with a Jerrid Hartman (Red Lion, Pa./Red
Lion) 5-3 win over Jose Vega. The junior moves to a strong
14-6 for the year as an exceptionally talented 125-pounder. The
Spartans were unable to maintain that early momentum as the
Cyclones secured the next six matches. Alex Martocello
(Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) then recorded his
14th win of the season courtesy of a 13-5 major decision
over JJ Mitchell at 184. Fellow sophomore George Saliba
(Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) shutout Tim
Tomaiano 7-0 at 197 pounds to improve his record to 9-4 for the
2009-10 campaign.
The Spartans return to action on Friday,
January 15, as they travel to Williamsport, Pa. for the annual Budd
Whitehill Duals. The two-day event begins at 9:00 a.m. Friday
morning.
