Box Score FREDERICK, MD – Allison Roush
(Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) posted three goals and
two assists Tuesday afternoon to lead the York College field hockey
squad to a 6-0 victory at Hood College in the Spartans'
Capital Athletic Conference opener. The Green and White improve to
1-1 (1-0 CAC) on the young 2009 campaign while the Blazers fall to
0-3 (0-2 CAC).
Roush opened the Spartans' offensive barrage with an
unassisted tally just a mere 3:24 into the match. The junior struck
again in the 19th minute to post an insurance notch for the Spartan
squad.
Roush and the Spartans continued to press the Blazers as the
Green and White would score two more times before the close of the
half. Katie Dawkins (Easton, Md./Easton) buried
her first score of 2009 courtesy of a Roush helper in the 25th
minute while senior captain Megan Spangler (Myerstown,
Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) assisted freshman
Sandee Reich (Pitman, N.J./Glassboro) on her first
collegiate goal less than two minutes later.
Owning a commanding 4-0 lead entering the break, the Spartans
had already outshot their hosts by an 18-0 count while collecting
11 penalty corners to Hood's zero.
Roush's offensive prowess was on full display as the
junior continued to add to her early season totals in the second
frame. She again connected with Dawkins at the 41:24 mark before
completing the game's scoring 22 seconds later with her third
unassisted tally of the match.
The York squad finished the game owning a 31-3 margin in shots
and a 15-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Senior goalkeeper Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del./Seaford
Senior) snags the win in the Spartan cage as she made one
save in her 44:16 of action. Freshman Lydia Pirie
(Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) and junior Maggie
Schlauch (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) combined to
complete the shutout for the Green and White as neither was forced
to make a save.
Anne Marie Hantman takes the loss for the Blazers despite making
eight saves. Kaitlin McCloskey came on for Hantman in the second
stanza and collected four stops.
The triumph not only gives the Spartans their first victory of
2009, but also provides the Green and White with their first road
win since a 2-0 victory at Wilson back on October 18, 2007.
York returns to action on Thursday, September 10, when they
travel to Gettysburg. The non-conference tilt is slated for 4:30
pm.
