MILLVILLE, PA-The York College
men's soccer squad remained perfect with an impressive 4-0
win over Susquehanna University at Millard Ludwig Stadium in
Millville, PA. The Spartans, who are ranked third in the nation,
improve to 7-0 overall. The Crusaders, who started the season 4-0,
fall to 4-3 for the campaign as they have been shutout in their
last three matches.
The Spartans opened the scoring in the 24th
minute as freshman Kemal Nuspahic (East Petersburg,
Pa./Warwick) received a feed from Travis Williams
(Springfield, Pa./Springfield Township) and finished the
assist with his fifth goal of the year. Nuspahic returned the favor
to junior All-American Jon Ports (Baltimore,
Md./McDonogh) just 26 seconds later as he dished to Ports
for his fourth goal of the season.
The green and white continued the offensive
onslaught in the 34th minute as Williams hit an unassisted bomb for
his first goal of the year. Junior Scott Becker (Hockessin,
Del./Salesianum) closed out the scoring in the 42nd minute
as Brett Sauerberger (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth
Regional) hit a corner that Becker headed home for the
goal which was his first of the year.
The Spartans did not score in th second half as
head coach Mark Ludwig got quality playing time for some of his
reserve players.
The green and white finished the game holding
a 15-8 edge in shots while both teams had five corner kicks. The
Spartan defensive shutout streak now stands at 471:22. York has
allowed just one goal in seven games this season.
Spartan netminder Kyle Marks
(Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) picked up the win as he made one
save in 45 minutes of action. Ryan Hock (Brookeville,
Md./Sherwood) recorded one save in 37 minutes while
Kyle Brooten (Gladstone, N.J/Bernards) played the
final eight minutes and was not forced to make a save.
B.J. Merriam went the distance in goal for the Crusaders as
he notched seven saves for the match.
The Spartans jump into conference play on
Wednesday as they host Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julie
College) on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
