YORK, PA-The York College field hockey team snapped their four
game losing streak with a 5-0 defeat of Villa Julie in Capital
Athletic Conference action on Wednesday. The Spartans now
stand at 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the CAC while Villa Julie drops to
1-7 overall and 0-2 in conference.
Notching the only tally of the first half, York's
Lisa King (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright)
received a crossing pass from Jami Hassler (Derwood, Md. /
Magruder) in the 21st minute and the forward promptly put
the Spartans up 1-0. King's first career goal would
prove to be the game-winner for the Spartans.
In the 45th minute , York cushioned their lead when Hassler
recorded her fourth goal of the campaign. Forward
Megan Spangler (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon
County) ripped a cross into the circle where Hassler was
able to send home the Spartans' second score of the day.
Barely ten minutes later, Hassler scored her second goal of the
game as she found herself alone at the back post for a simple
finish. Casey Lawrence (Abbottstown, Pa. / Delone
Catholic) gets credit for the assist after her shot
bounded off Villa Julie goalkeeper Kara Zimmerman and directly to
Hassler's stick.
April McFarland (York, Pa. / Eastern York)
finished up the scoring for York with tallies in the 59th and 68th
minutes. McFarland's fifth goal of the year came on an
Erin Donahue (Huntington Valley, Pa. / Lower
Moreland) penalty corner which the junior collected and
rifled home for the score. Her sixth notch was assisted by Hassler
as the pair combined for a beautiful finish in front of the Mustang
goal.
The Spartans finished the game with a 10-2 advantage in shots
while also claiming a 13-5 margin in penalty corners.
Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del./Seaford Senior)
earned her fourth win of the year in the Spartan net as she made
two saves to maintain the shutout. Villa Julie's
Zimmerman posted three saves in the losing effort.
Back in the win column, York travels to St. Mary's on
Saturday. The CAC contest is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
