BRIDGEWATER, VA-The York College women's soccer team completed
their weekend in fine style Sunday as they defeated McDaniel
College 5-1 in Bridgewater, VA. The Spartans took both games
of the Bridgewater College Tournament, the only team of four to
record two victories.
The Spartans took an early lead when CAC first-team selection
Erin Kuhn (Turnersville, N.J. / Washington
Township) tallied in the sixth minute play. Assisted
by fellow CAC first-teamer Emily Sullivan (Bowie, Md. /
Archbishop Spalding), Kuhn's goal was her third of the
young season.
McDaniel answered in the 22nd minute when Sarah Wallace found
the back of the Spartan net. Tied 1-1, the green and white
kicked their attack into high gear.
Four minutes before the break, Sam Shultz (Stewartstown,
Pa. / Kennard-Dale) found Ilana Kline (Camp Hill,
Pa. / Camp Hill) to regain York's lead. Kline's goal
allowed the Spartans to take the 2-1 advantage into halftime.
Brittany Nechay (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere)
padded the Spartan lead in the 65th minute. Sullivan found
the Spartan newcomer who promptly beat McDaniel's goalkeeper for
the third York goal.
Now up 3-1, the Spartans ensured their victory with two more
goals in the last three minutes of action. Sullivan scored
the Spartans' fourth goal, assisted by Erin Mummert (Spring
Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove). Mummert registered the
final tally of the day, as she scored in the 90th minute.
