SELINSGROVE, PA-The York College field hockey squad saw their
modest two match win streak come to a grinding halt as they
suffered a 6-0 shutout loss at Susquehanna University on Tuesday
afternoon in Selinsgrove, PA. The Crusaders improve to 3-4 while
the Spartans fall to 3-5.
Susquehanna wasted little time in getting on the board as Andrea
Fiori scored the opening goal off a pass from Kristen Epting in the
game's eighth minute. Megan Sites pushed the lead to 2-0 with
a goal of her own 12:21 into the game. Susquehanna scored just over
five minutes later as Fiori picked up her second goal of the game
with 17:12 left before halftime. Fiori's second goal came off
a pass from Jenelle Anthony.
The Spartans had chances in the first half as they managed to
squeeze off eight shots including three on goal. The Crusaders had
13 shots for the half, finding paydirt three times.
The second half was one of domination for the Crusaders. Fiori
and Anthony connected again 7:37 into the second half as the lead
grew to 4-0. Anthony then put home two goals of her own in the 47th
and 49th minutes to close out the scoring.
Susquehanna held a 16-0 bulge in second half shots as they
finished the game with a huge 29-8 margin in total shots and a 17-3
advantage in shots on goal. Susquehanna also finished the game with
a 9-2 margin in penalty corners.
Lyndsay Meabon finished the shutout with three saves for the
Crusaders. Spartan sophomore Claire Rekitzke (Seaford,
Del./Seaford Senior) absorbed the loss as she allowed six
goals in 51:44 of action. Rektitzke did post nine saves for the
Spartans.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday afternoon when they
host Juniata College in a non-conference contest. Game time at
Kinsley Field is set for 4:30 pm.
