ARLINGTON, VA-The York College men's soccer team continued
to rebound from Saturday's disappointing loss to Salisbury as
the Spartans defeated Marymount University 4-0 in Capital
Athletic Conference action on Wednesday in Arlington, VA. The
Spartans have outscored their last two opponents 15-0 as they
improve to 11-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference. The Saints fall
to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
The Spartans got on the board early as Jon Ports
(Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) created a penalty kick as he was
taken down in the box just under five minutes into the game. Ports
was stoned on the penalty kick but he drilled home the rebound,
giving the Spartans the 1-0 lead.
The remainder of the first half was scoreless as the Spartans
were unable to convert a number of quality chances in the half.
York outshot Marymount 14-2 in the frame as they led 1-0 at the
break.
The second half saw the Spartans tally their second goal just
1:59 into the stanza. Lucas Emil (Parsippany, N.J./Morris
Catholic) fed Kurt Lane (Cochranville,
Pa./Octorara) with a beautiful pass that Lane finished off
for the goal.
York added a pair of goals in a 37-second span in the 76th
minute. Ports hit a cross that junior Mike Whalen
(Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle) finished on the far post for
the Spartans' third goal. Senior Jason Mancuso (Toms
River, N.J./Toms River North) finished off the scoring
with an unassisted goal 75:51 into the game.
York finished the game holding a 28-4 bulge in shots while they
also held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Kyle Marks (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and
sophomore Ryan Hock (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood)
combined to post the win in goal. Marks played 82:20 minutes and
made three saves. Hock played the final 7:40 minutes of the game
and was not forced to make a stop. William Brahmstedt was tagged
with the loss as he made 13 saves for the Saints.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday as they host St.
Mary's College in a key conference contest. Kick off at
Graham Field is set for 2:30 pm.
