Spartan Women Put Together Strong Showing at ECXC Invitational

LEBANON, PA – The York College women's cross country squad finished seventh of ten teams at Friday night's Elizabethtown College Short Course Invitational at Union Canal Tunnel Park in Lebanon, PA.

The Spartans finished with 230 points. Dickinson won the team title with 44 points while Mount St. Mary's finished second with 74 points. The host Blue Jays finished second, one point behind MSM with 75 points. Moravian finished fourth with 91 points while Stevenson and Scranton tied with 104 points each.


Top Spartan Finishers

• Junior Emma Rogers was York's top finisher as she placed 48th of 121 runners as she crossed the finish line in a time of 19:54.55. Teammate Taylor Barkdoll was right behind her in 49th with a time of 19:54.70.

• Sophomore Amber Strouse was the third Spartan to cross the finish line with a time of 19:57.65 as she placed 52nd overall. After Courtney Gelb finished 53rd, the Spartans had a run of four straight finishers started by Elle Meyer as she concluded the race with a time of 19:59.56 to finish 54th. Sarah Nicoletti was right behind Meyer with a time of 19:59.88 which is a new 5K PR for her. Abigail Sykes was next with a time of 20:00.75 while Nicole Wasserleben followed with a time of 20:01.77.

• Senior Rachel Banchiere rounded out the Spartans top eight as she placed 59th with a time of 20:02.69. Freshman Sarah Skane set a new 5K PR as she crossed the line in a time of 21:38.63.


He Said It:

"The women had great races tonight," said head coach Stephen LoBianco. "Emma and Taylor were close together to lead the way and we had a string of fellow Spartans right behind them. I was very happy to see the women staying close and feeding off each other's positive energy during the race. I really think the women are in better shape than they are giving themselves credit for, and we will look to continue to improve through the rest of the season."


Up Next

The Spartans will now be off until Saturday, October 5 when they travel to Bethlehem, PA to participate in the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University. The day is slated for a 9:00 am start.
