Spartan Volleyball Earns 3-0 on Wednesday Night vs. Dickinson

YORK, PA – The York College women's volleyball squad picked up a non-conference win on Wednesday, besting Dickinson College 3-0 at Wolf Gymnasium. The Spartans have won 10 of their last 12 matches and have now won 18 straight against the Red Devils.

How It Happened:

• The first set was back and forth early as neither team could establish momentum. The Spartans started to pull away midway through the set as they took a 14-9 lead on a Gabby Emeigh service ace. The Spartans eventually pushed the lead to 22-14 on a Cheyenne Altland kill. The Red Devils trimmed their deficit to five but York ended the set on a three-point spurt to capture the 25-17 set one win.

• The second set was tightly contested after York took an early 9-4 lead. Dickinson tied the set at nine with a 5-0 run and the two teams would be tied again at 10, 11, and 12 before York opened up an 18-13 lead thanks to a 6-1 Spartan run. The Red Devils kept clawing their way back into the set, eventually tying the game at 23. York got a Dickinson attack error and a kill to end the set 25-23.

• The Red Devils blitzed the Spartans early in the third set as they led 5-1 early. York battled back, tying the set at 12. The Green and White led 16-15 and proceeded to go on a 7-0 run to take a 23-15 lead before closing out the 25-18 set three win.

York is now 25-10 against Dickinson as the Spartans have won 18 straight in the series … York improved to 7-4 in three set matches … York is now 5-3 at home … York is now 13-5 in the third set this year … York hit under .200 for the third straight match after having three straight matches above .205 … senior Heather Secrist made her first start at libero this year and responded with a season-high 16 digs … junior Jordyn Cotone played a solid match with six kills and a season-high 10 digs … sophomore Tyler Williams had a good night with a double-double of 10 kills and 14 digs … the 14 digs were a season-high for Williams … Williams has had double figures in kills four times this year … junior Gabby Emeigh went over 20 assists for the 12th time in 18 games … Emeigh also had multiple service aces (2) for the 11th time as she has a streak of four straight games with multiple service aces … York had a season-high 13 solo blocks in the win … York has had five matches with double figures in total blocks this year.

 

Up Next

The Spartans head to Frostburg State University to face the Bobcats and Pitt-Greensburg in a tri-match. The Spartans and Bobcats will play their Capital Athletic Conference match at noon followed by York taking on Pitt-Greensburg at 2:00 pm. That starts a three-match road trip for the Green and White.
