#9 Spartans Wrap Up Two Seed with Big Win at #7 UMW

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The York College women's lacrosse team picked up a huge Capital Athletic Conference win as the Spartan went on the road and beat #7 Mary Washington 10-7 on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg. The win secures the number two seed for the Spartans as they will host the seven seed next Saturday in the CAC quarterfinals.

How It Happened:

• The Eagles jumped on the Spartans with a pair of goals in the opening six minutes of play. The Spartans responded in impressive fashion as the defense stiffened and the offense got going. York held the Eagles scoreless over the final 24 minutes of the first half while the Green and White scored five goals in the final 20 minutes of the half to take a 5-2 lead to the break. York got goals from Jordan Conley, Regan Cook, Devin Hursey, Hayley McCormick, and Meghan Fox to take the halftime lead.

• York outshot the Eagles 17-9 in the first half while they also held a commanding 7-1 margin in draw controls.

• The Eagles opened the second half scoring with a Julia Albert goal but York responded with goals from Caitlin Rankin and Fox as York held a 7-3 lead. After a UMW goal from Mackenzie Maguire, Cook scored back to back goals as the Spartans lead 9-4 with 14:27 left in the game.

• The Eagles got three straight goals, all within a span of 1:31 to make it very interesting as the York lead was 9-7 with 10 minutes left in the game. The Spartans steadied the ship and got an Rankin insurance goal with 6:47 left in the game. Spartan goalie Abby Smith made three big saves in the final six minutes of the game to preserve the victory.
