YORK, PA – The York College men's cross country team opened their 2019 season on Friday evening in the Inaugural EW Relay Classic on the campus of York College.
The event was a fun night honoring the memory of Ethan Williamson, a former Spartan cross country and track and field athlete, who passed away last March. Runners were paired up in groups of two as they took turns running legs of the race.
The alumni duo of Grant Dell and Ben Linne captured the championship on Friday evening as they combined to post a time of 18:31. They edged the Spartan duo of Timmy Buzynski and Jake O'Neill who finished just behind them as they also finished with a time of 18:31. The tandem of Isaac Valderrabano and Josh Diehl posted a time of 19:12 to finish in third. The alumni duo of Ray Smith and Matt Zubrzycki clocked in with a time of 19:27 to finish fourth. Justin Smyth and Joshua Goodrich teamed up to finish fifth with a time of 19:30.
"It was a great night of the team coming together to remember Ethan by doing something he loved, running," said head coach Stephen LoBianco. "Now, we will look ahead to build off tonight's success as we continue our season."
The Spartans return to action next Friday night as they travel to Shippensburg University to participate in the Piper XC Invitational hosted by Shippensburg University. The event kicks off at 8:00 pm.
