BUENA VISTA, VA – The York College men's tennis team saw their fall campaign come to an end with a 9-0 loss at Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon in Buena Vista, Virginia.
The loss was the Spartans first fall setback as they finished the fall campaign with a mark of 6-1. The loss was the first Capital Athletic Conference match of the year for the Green and White. Southern Virginia improves to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the league.
The Knights opened the match by sweeping the three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-5. The Spartans' second doubles team of Tyler Richard and Jack Leinbach had the best showing as they fell to Ben Spencer and Ethan Sherwood 8-3.
The Knights were dominating in singles play as they won all six flights in straight sets. Josiah Forry had the closest match for the Spartans as he lost to Ben Spencer 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth singles match.
The Spartans had a number of players with strong fall showings. Freshman Tej Laliwala went 6-1 at second singles while he also went 6-1 when combined with Ben Sentz in first doubles. Richard went 5-2 in singles play as he saw all his matches in the third singles position. The Spartans finished the fall with a record of 25-16 in their singles matches and 15-6 as a team in doubles play.
The Spartans will resume their campaign in March when the 2020 portion of the schedule begins.
