Spartan Men Pick Up Road Win at Messiah on Saturday

GRANTHAM, PA – The York College men's tennis squad picked up their second fall win with a 5-4 victory over Messiah College on Saturday afternoon in Grantham. The Spartans improve to 2-0 while Messiah falls to 0-1.

The Spartans opened doubles play by taking the first two matches. The first doubles team of Ben Sentz and Tej Laliwala earned an 8-4 win over Andrew Bookman and Jarod Snader to give York the early lead. Tyler Richard and Justin Rose teamed up to post an 8-3 second doubles win over Alex Mantsevich and Keller Martin. The Falcons picked up an 8-7 (11-9) third doubles win in a highly competitive match between York's Jack Leinbach and Josiah Forry and Messiah's Bryson Boettger and Ellis Martin.

York opened singles play with a trio of wins. Sentz outlasted Galen Fitzkee 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the first singles match up. Laliwala followed Sentz with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Mantsevich in the second singles match. Richard secured the decisive fifth point with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 third singles win. The Falcons won the fourth, fifth and sixth singles matches to provide for the Spartans' 5-4 margin of victory.

The Spartans are back at it next weekend with a pair of home matches as they will host Gettysburg on Saturday at 12:00 pm and Elizabethtown on Sunday at 11:00 am.
