ANNVILLE, PA – The York College men's tennis squad began their 2019 fall campaign with a 5-4 win at Lebanon Valley College in Annville on Saturday. It was the season opener for both squads.
The Green and White opened the match by winning two of three doubles points. Ben Sentz and Tej Laliwala combined to earn an 8-4 first doubles win. The Dutchmen earned a tight 8-7 (7-3) second doubles win as Nicholas Balaci and Reed Morris edged Tyler Richard and Justin Rose in the match. Jack Leinbach and Josiah Forry closed out the doubles play with an 8-6 third doubles win over Ben Hinkley and Luke Senft.
Sentz kicked off singles play by outlasting Justin Schuetz 2-6, 6-0, 6-0 in the first singles match. Laliwala made his collegiate singles debut a memorable one as he rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 second singles win over Blake Martin. Richard opened his singles campaign with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 third singles win to give York a commanding 5-2 lead. The Spartans would need all three of their singles wins as the Dutchmen won the fourth, fifth and sixth singles match to provide for the 5-4 final score.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, September 21 when they travel to Messiah College to face the Falcons in a non-conference match. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start in Grantham.
