BUENA VISTA, VA – The York College men's soccer squad got back on the winning side of the ledger with a 1-0 road win at Southern Virginia on Saturday night in Buena Vista, Virginia. The Spartans swept the regular season series from the Knights, outscoring SVU by a combined 8-0 score.

How It Happened:
• The Spartans were all over the Knights early in the game as the constantly had possession in the Southern Virginia defensive third. The Spartans recorded ten shots in the first 20 minutes of play but Knight goalie Jacob Solis was up to the task as he made a number of saves to keep the game scoreless.
• York finally broke through in the 32nd minute as Tony Mosqueira hit a brilliant cross that found the head of McClain Smith who finished off the chance in front of the goal for the 1-0 lead. The goal was Smith's second goal of the year.
• The Spartans fired off three more shots over the final 12 minutes of the half but would settle for the 1-0 halftime lead. York outshot Southern Virginia 17-1 in the first half of play while they also had a 9-0 bulge in corner kicks.
• York continued the pressure in the second half but the Knight defense didn't wilt under the Spartan pressure as they kept their deficit at one. The Spartans outshot SVU 10-4 in the second half but settled for the final 1-0 lead, two weeks after the Green and White bounced the Knights 7-0 at Graham Field.

The Spartans are now 8-0 all-time against Southern Virginia … the meeting was the final regular season meeting as CAC opponents as York is heading to the MAC next fall … The Spartans have outscored the Knights 22-0 over the last five meetings … the Spartan defense registered their seventh shutout while freshman keeper Josh Kappes recorded his third clean sheet in his fourth collegiate start … junior midfielder McClain Smith has two goals and they are both game-winning goals in 1-0 wins for the Spartans … the Spartans fired off 27 shots in the win, their second-highest total of the year (42 vs. SVU on Oct. 5) … the Spartans are now all alone in third place in the CAC, one game ahead of St. Mary's who they will face on Wednesday … York has three games left in the regular season with two of those matches coming at home … York is now 4-4-1 on the road.
