YORK, PA – The fifth ranked York College men's lacrosse team opened Capital Athletic Conference play with a strong defensive effort as York downed #15 Christopher Newport University 13-4 on Saturday afternoon in York. The Spartans have now won four straight as the defense has allowed just 19 goals in those four victories.

How It Happened
• The Spartans were the aggressors early but CNU goalie Scott McAneney turned York away and kept the Spartans off the board over the first nine plus minutes of the game. York finally found the back of the cage when senior Thomas Pfeiffer scored with 5:03 left in the quarter. Sophomore Dylan Wolf made it 2-0 just 39 seconds later with a laser from 10 yards out. Eben Ordakowski kept the run going with a goal off a pass from Brendan McGrath with 2:12 remaining in the period. The Captains got on the board with a Glenn Doering unassisted goal with under a minute left as York took a 3-1 lead to the quarter break.
• The Captains sliced their deficit in half with a Brady Altobello goal 1:43 into the second quarter. York then got goals from McGrath and Hunter Davis inside the final five minutes of the second as York took a 5-2 lead to the intermission.
• The Spartans put a stranglehold on the game in the third as they outscored the Captains 3-0 to take an 8-2 lead. York got goals from Pfeiffer, Wolf and Brendan O'Sullivan as the defense allowed just 10 shots while goalie Jack Michael made five saves in the period.
• York closed out the game by outscoring the Captains 5-2 in the fourth quarter. Pfeiffer started the scoring with a goal at the 13:36 mark. McGrath got back-to-back goals to make it 11-4. After Lucas Barry scored the Captains final goal, McGrath and Ordakowski scored for York for the final nine goal margin of victory.
