How It Happened
• The Profs got off to a hot start in the first inning as Matt Woods launched the first pitch of the game out to center field for a lead-off homer. Later in the inning, Steven Hewa would lift an opposite-field three-run blast to right field to put Rowan ahead 4-0 after just one inning.
• In the top half of the second, Woods would strike again for another solo shot, this time to right center, to push the lead out to 5-0 after a pair of frames.
• In the top of the fourth, the Profs would add another run when Hewa would tag up on a deep fly ball from Dan Shane and scored on the sacrifice fly all the way from second base and the Spartans now trailed 6-0. York would try to score their first run in the bottom of the fourth but were gunned down at the plate to keep the Spartans off the board.
• Jake Herr was fantastic out of the pen for the Spartans keeping York within striking distance but Jeremy Dyzenhaus was even better tossing a complete game shutout while not allowing the Spartans to even get a runner to third base besides the runner thrown out trying to score from first as the Spartans dropped the game 6-0 at the hands of the #4 Profs.
The Spartans are now 10-16 all-time against the Profs … the Spartans have dropped three in a row against the Profs as the loss snaps the Spartans' seven-game winning streak … this was just the second time the Spartans were shutout on the year … York was held to single-digit hits for just the second time in the last eight games … Austin Denlinger became the first Spartan on the year to reach 50 hits as he now has 51 on the season … Jake Herr tossed a career-high 7.0 innings with a career-best eight strikeouts out of the bullpen … Luke Turner singled in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to 11 games … the loss was the first at home on the year for the Spartans as they are now 12-1.
The Spartans will stay home when they are back in action on Thursday when they play host to the #14 Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets. The Spartans will celebrate Senior Day prior to the contest. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm at Jaquet Field.
