How It Happened:

• After a scoreless first inning the Pilgrims struck in the second when Christian Aybar doubled down the left field line to drive in a pair of Pilgrim runners with two outs putting York in an early 2-0 hole.

• The two teams would be held at bay by the opposing pitchers for next three innings before New England College struck again when Joe Maestu hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Luis Atiles who had tripled the at-bat before stretching the Pilgrim advantage to three.

• New England College would add another run in the top half of the seventh with the Spartan offense unable to get any momentum only managing four hits through the end of the eighth innings.

• The Pilgrims would balloon their lead to 11 after scoring seven runs in the top half of the ninth inning all but putting any hope of a comeback for the Spartans away. The Pilgrims put up a seven-spot on York using just two hits in the frame. York would add a pair to break the shutout in the bottom half on RBI singles from Jimmy Wiegers and Grant Oberholtzer before eventually falling in the season opener 11-2.
