Box Score FREDERICK, MD – The York College women's tennis team took one step closer to clinching a MAC Commonwealth tournament berth with a 7-0 win over Hood on Saturday.
The Spartans improve to 7-5 overall while they are now 2-2 in the Commonwealth. The Blazers see their campaign come to an end at 2-7 overall and 0-5. The Spartans have won three straight.
The Spartans swept the three doubles matches to earn the point.
Maddi Haggerty and
Bri Serruto combined to post a 6-0 first doubles win.
Caraline Junkin and
Mia Leonhartt also registered a shutout win with a 6-0 victory of their own in the third doubles match.
Kennedy Conte and
Hannah Sult teamed up to earn a 6-4 second doubles win for the Green and White.
Serruto had the closest singles match for York as she beat Anna Frye 6-4, 6-4 in the first singles match. Sult posted a bagel win in the second singles match as the Spartans took a 4-0 lead. Haggerty recorded a 6-1, 6-1 third singles win for York.
Conte posted a 6-2, 6-1 fourth singles win for the Green and White. Leonhartt recorded a 6-1, 6-0 fifth singles win while Junkin closed out the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 sixth singles win.
The Spartans close out their regular season on Sunday when they travel to Eastern University to take on the Eagles in the regular season finale. If the Spartans can record a win, they are the number three seed in next week's Commonwealth tournament. Sunday's match is slated for a 1:00 pm start in St. David's, PA.
